Next Sheff Movement Coalition Meeting – Oct. 19th
Have you heard recent news stories about children as young as six and eight years old being arrested and transported in police vehicles? Did you know that in December 2018 the Trump administration withdrew guidance created by the Obama administration in order to protect students of color from being more harshly disciplined than their peers? These two actions illustrate the phenomenon known as the School-to-Prison Pipeline.
The focus of this month’s coalition meeting is the School-to-Prison Pipeline and its impact on students, families, and communities. This is a critical issue of racial disparities in educational and life outcomes for children of color. Awareness and action are needed to address it.
Together, we will discuss some of the key school-related factors involved in the pipeline, as well as the intergenerational impacts, and what we can do, together, to address this injustice.
