We’re Hiring! Executive Director and Community Organizer

Executive Director (full-time): The Executive Director works collaboratively with the Board of Directors, with overall developmental and operational responsibility for The Sheff Movement Coalition (SMC) program administration, resource development and management, community outreach, and execution of its mission as outlined in the SMC strategic plan. The ED communicates, supports, and reinforces the SMC mission.

Position Overview:

  • Act as chief administrative and program officer
  • Develop and administer all operations and programs, providing oversight for all policies and practices
  • Partner with Board of Directors, engage key stakeholders
  • Expand visibility, creating opportunities for strategic partnership and financial support
  • Build relationships with corporate, nonprofit and government and funding communities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate all activities, programs, and operations to assure they are meeting the mission of the organization as set forth by the Board of Directors
  • Act as a visionary and set the course for new initiatives to support and expand access to quality integrated education for all children
  • Engage in strategic planning and organizational development on behalf of the organization for both the staff and Board of Directors
  • Lead fundraising and development initiatives and maintains funder relations
  • Assure an adequate financial base for operations; identify potential financial resources; plan and implement an annual budget; report to the Board of Directors on a regular basis regarding the budget
  • Develop an adequate staffing pattern; manage recruitment, selection, supervision, training and evaluation of personnel
  • Maintain effective community relations; develop linkages in the community in order to increase the organization’s capacity for providing education, information, advocacy, and referrals;
  • All other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 years’ experience in nonprofit management, leadership, and/or program management
  • Proven history of successful fundraising and funder relationship management
  • Outstanding communications skills with the ability to interact with a broad range of audiences
  • Nonprofit Board relations experience
  • Commitment to and understanding of school integration, education equity, diversity and inclusion, anti-racism and anti-oppression work
  • Knowledge of Greater Hartford and its diversity, communities, and educational landscape
  • Exceptional communication, management, and interpersonal skills

Community Organizer (full-time): The Community Organizer will be responsible for developing and coordinating programs designed to promote and generate support for and expanded access to quality integrated education for all children as required to implement The Sheff Movement Coalition’s (SMC) new strategic plan.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Works with SMC staff, coalition members, community members and partners to develop opportunities for the Greater Hartford community to engage with SMC and advocate for quality integrated education for all children
  • Expands and strengthens SMC’s activist and supporter base throughout Greater Hartford
  • Mobilizes parents, students, educators, administrators and community members in support of local coalition efforts
  • Coordinates many aspects of the SMC school-based advocacy teams, including leading and supporting meetings, recruitment, training, and development
  • Works with the Sheff Movement coalition leadership to set monthly meeting agendas and co-facilitate meetings
  • Arranges internal and public workshops and trainings and coordinates SMC staff or volunteer presence and community outreach events

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience and success in community organizing, grassroots issues or advocacy campaigns, and/or electoral campaigns
  • Commitment to integrated education for all children and commitment to social, economic, and racial justice
  • Must have strong written, verbal, and organizational skills; and the ability to set and meet clear goals
  • Experience working with students and managing volunteers
  • Flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours
  • Knowledge of Hartford and its neighborhoods, populations, and communities is a plus.
