Take Action: Rally for High Quality Education on July 10

Monday June 30, 2014

Join us at 12pm on July 10th, as we bring attention to the need for more high quality magnet and charter schools.

Although Hartford Public Schools began its ambitious school reform and redesign process in 2007, and the Sheff v. O’Neill magnet school and Open Choice options have grown significantly since 2003, there are still far too many students who don’t have access to high quality school options. Far too many students are still on wait lists at high performing magnet and charter schools. In fact, this school year, over 20,000 families applied for racially and economically integrated Open Choice and magnet school seats. That’s the highest number yet. We must let our elected officials, school administrators and board of education members know that their job is not done until every Hartford student is in a high-performing school.

Join parents, community leaders and education partners as we call attention to the large number of students still waiting.

We’ll gather outside the Legislative Office Building (300 Capitol Avenue) and march to the State Board of Education (165 Capitol Avenue). Parents are encouraged to bring their wait list number or letters to the rally and be ready to pin your wait list number on your shirt.
